A Dream Derailed and Rebuilt: Treehouse Café
In the evolving world of local coffee shops, finding a spot that genuinely feels like a community hub is rare. Sarah Grant created that with Treehouse Café: a haven for connection, wellness, and personal growth. It's not just a café—it's a wellness space and a reflection of its owner's deep-rooted commitment to holistic living.
Treehouse Café wasn't Sarah's original plan. She had previously built a thriving collective hub for holistic practitioners: The Essential Wellness Society, a wellness center boasting twelve suites. This center was meant to be a physical manifestation of her passion for holistic health. "I poured my heart into it," she said.
"I have a big networking group that's only for holistic practitioners called the Essential Wellness Society," she explains. "We needed a physical location to bring everyone together. So that's why I opened the wellness center. It was a beautiful space."
The space housed a collective of massage therapists, acupuncturists, herbalists, and energy healers working together to create a holistic, alternative approach to health and wellness.
"The city of Colorado Springs took the building under eminent domain," she says. "That means they can take your land if they believe they can use it better than you can. So they demolished my building. I had four businesses in there, and it was just gone overnight."
The demolition of the wellness center was a crushing blow, forcing Sarah to step back from the entrepreneurial world she had embraced for eight years.
